What are they learning from you

What concerns me is that this anti-everything culture could potentially harm our kids more than the trauma of the pandemic itself. They see the cynicism, the fear, the vitriol, and that’s what they’ll remember. Instead of a clear, unified message of how to behave in a crisis, they’re caught in the crossfire between adults playing politics with their lives. It’s confusing and it’s scary.

I don’t doubt that every parent wants what's best for their kids. I just think that many parents need to take a hard look at what their kids are actually learning from them. Are they learning how to be cynical of medicine and doctors or are they gaining a deeper understanding of the value they provide? Are they learning how to be empathetic and thoughtful of others or are they learning that the livelihood of their neighbors comes second to winning arguments about inconsequential personal liberties?

I just want to say thank you to those parents who are taking advantage of this mess to teach their kids how to be responsible members of their community. How to value empathy, critical thinking, and the input of experts and science. Not how to live in fear of every establishment around them.
